Sixty years ago marked the grand opening of the historic Rodgers Theatre in Poplar Bluff, MO. It was one of the finest movie theatres of its kind between Memphis & St. Louis. The theatre was built in 1949 by I.W Rodgers and was sold to Kerasotes Brothers Theatres of Springfield, IL in 1966. In 1998 its saw its last picture show and was turned over to the county.
Today things are really different. The theatre is tired. The letters have faded. The ticket booth is boarded up and the marquee has been damaged. Yet, even more change is to come, this time for the better.
Brawner & Associates is working as the General Theatrical Consultants with Dille & Traxel Architects of Poplar Bluff, MO to restore the space & transform it into a premiere theatrical venue. Design work has been completed for a multi-phased renovation project for the First Baptist Church of Bolivar MO. B&A was contracted as the churches design-build partner. The project will include a new stage design, upgraded audio, video and lighting systems, acoustic treatments & digital signage. Also included in the project is a technical renovation of a 1940’s theatrical space that the church acquired as a youth area and satellite venue.
Design and installation is complete for a 550 seat Theatre for Lafayette HS in St. Louis, MO. The original 1986 theatre was stripped down and completely re-built. Design work has been completed for a new 600 seat theatre for O’Fallon High School in IL. The project was completed in October of 2009. Both projects included design of lighting, audio, video and theatrical rigging systems. Covenant Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida has started construction on their new church which includes a 700 seat sanctuary. B&A has been contracted as the churches design-build partner and will be designing audio, video lighting, digital signage systems and acoustics for the sanctuary & other rooms throughout the space. The project is under construction and will be completed in early 2011.
Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany GA (creators of the movie “Fireproof”) hired B&A for a multi-phased sanctuary & fellowship hall renovation project that started in September 2009 and will extend into summer of 2010. Renovations have included new audio systems, lighting, video systems and acoustics. Biltmore Baptist Church in Asheville NC has started a major sanctuary renovation. Brawner & Associates has been hired as the churches design-build partner. The renovation will include a complete re-design of the lighting system inclusive of lighting positions, intelligent lighting and upgraded control systems. The video system renovation will feature new video projection, cameras, a complete conversion from SD to HD and upgraded control equipment.
The stage space will be completely transformed with the design of a new “graphic panel” set which allows for constant change and flexibility by the user. The panels are lit with LED lighting. The space will also feature a custom, 3500 sq ft modular stage design that allows for multiple floor surfaces and limitless floor pocket locations and flexibility.
